Job Overview:

WeARE is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote and provide reproductive health education and services to youth, young adults and the underserved in the Brainerd Lakes Area. We are seeking an education coordinator to develop, adapt, facilitate, coordinate and promote our sexual health education programming. Current sexual health topics include, reproductive anatomy, STIs, birth control, consent and healthy relationships, gender 101 and parent/child workshops. Many programs are facilitated at partner organizations working with at risk youth and young adults in the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop education materials, related curriculum and resources
  • Facilitate regular educational workshops for current partners in the community
  • Coordinate schedule for programming and engage volunteer or staff facilitators when necessary
  • Serve as advisor to Youth Advisory Council (YAC)
  • Coordinate and facilitate sexual health education program for 6 week Upward Bound Program
  • Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the community to determine education needs
  • Create a monthly calendar of activities and quarterly program outlines and plans
  • Stay current on all information concerning reproductive health and sexuality education
  • Identify community based resources (i.e. medical and mental health care specialists) and refer clients to and advocate for the acquisition of resources on their behalf
  • Advocate for reproductive health and the field of sexuality education
  • Maintain confidential and secured recording keeping when necessary
  • Submit monthly reports and attendance logs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • A commitment to the mission and programs of WeARE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Counseling, Community Health Education, or related field
  • Outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills both oral and written
  • An ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a high level of confidentiality and professional integrity
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings and the occasional Saturday
  • Serve as a role model
  • Experience teaching adolescents on topics such as pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other related health and lifestyle topics (preferred — not required)
  • Certification as a Community Health Education Specialist (preferred — not required)
